FAQs

  • What is the meaning of 'X' in "Womxn"?
We changed the spelling of the word because we wanted to be more inclusive of our trans-, non-binary, and gender-fluid family. Furthermore, we realized that "Women of Color Weekend," without additional explanation, did not indicate that the event was for the LGBTQIA communities. The bullet points from our original FB post are below: 1. “Womxn” encompasses a broader range of gender identities than “woman” — or even older feminist terms such as “womyn.” 2. “Womxn” is one of a few similar lexical and social phenomena, including the adoption of “x” in naming LGBTQ and non-gender-binary people 3. “Womxn” is a departure from patriarchal linguistic norms as “women” and “woman” originate from Old English, where “man” was used as a gender fluid pronoun much like “one” and “they” have turned into today 4. “Womyn” is considered a white, liberal-feminist concept, and thus, the term “womxn” was created to broaden the scope of womanhood by including “womxn-of-color,” “trans-womxn” and other “womxn-identified” groups 5. ‘Womxn’ is aligned with terms such as “Latinx,” which includes people of Latin American descent whose gender identities fluctuate along different points of the spectrum, from agender or nonbinary to gender non-conforming genderqueer and genderfluid
  • Where can I find more information on Accessibility throughout the Weekend?
Provincetown itself has striven to become more accessible, but it struggles with some typical problems in an old Town, like uneven sidewalks and steep roads. The Accessible Provincetown Welcome Center has wheelchairs and canes that can be borrowed. Our team at WoCW will provide information about each venue as our schedule is confirmed, and you can always reach out to us if you need more information or specific accommodations. At this time, we only provide ASL Interpretation or Language Translation upon request, so please reach out to us in advance of registering for your Weekend Pass so that we can make the appropriate arrangements.
  • What is the refund policy?
All sales are final at the time of purchase, with no refunds or returns available. Payment Plan installments are also final at the time of purchase, with no refunds for partial payments.
  • How do I get in contact with the Planning Squad?
You can send an email to info@wocw.org or reach out to us on Facebook or Instagram. We always love hearing from our fam and will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible!
  • Are non-PoC welcome or allowed to attend?
Yes, it's important to us that all attendees feel welcome and included. We understand that some of our attendees may have non-PoC spouses, family members, and friends, and we want to assure them that they are welcome to join us. HOWEVER, we also want to create a safe and supportive space for PoC and will have events throughout the weekend that are reserved for PoC ONLY. These events will be clearly indicated on the website and schedule so everyone can plan accordingly.
